Earn your kayak instructor certification this June

The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Md. is hosting an American Canoe Association Essentials of Kayak Instructor Certification course June 5–7, with participation limited, and advanced registration needed.

Participants will be led by Jake Taylor, a team rider for Aztron Sports, instructor for the American Canoe Association (ACA), and the state director of ACA Vermont, in this three-day coastal kayaking instructor certification course. Participants will learn level 1 and level 2 coastal and river disciplines, while gaining confidence in managing and teaching within these environments.

Based in Fredericksburg, Va., the American Canoe Association is the oldest and largest paddle sports organization in the United States, promoting canoeing, kayaking, and rafting. The ACA sponsors more than seven hundred events each year, along with safety education, instructor certification, waterway conservation, and public information campaigns.

The course takes place each day from 8:30am–5pm, with the cost set at $450 per person, and a 20% discount offered to CBMM members. The ACA instructor manual and kayak rental (if needed) are included in the course registration fee. To register, go to cbmm.org/kayakcertification.

Following registration, a course packet will be provided to you via email with what to expect, what to bring, what to wear, and what’s expected of you. Participation is limited to adults 18 years of age and older.
